In the year 1996, Brock Ayers '82 put forth a proposal to the Board of Trustees to allow a selective group of students on campus to invest $200,000 dollars of the endowment. After initial review the board felt that investing real money would be an invaluable experience for the students, because it would provide the students an opportunity to take part of experimental learning that Westminster College highly values. Hence, the Blue Blazers Investment Committee was formed under the supervision of Brock Ayers who continues to be a mentor to the group.
The mission of Blue Blazers Investment Committee is to encourage intellectual growth and educate undergraduates about the investment vehicles used to analyze the capital markets. The education will be based on creating, managing and evaluating an investment portfolio through research, hands-on investing, and evaluation of individual investments within specified boundaries.
- The Blue Blazer Investment Committee will strive to be the most respected and challenging organization on the Westminster College campus.
- Building on the educational goals of Westminster College, the committee will challenge its members to expand their knowledge and prepare themselves for professional advancement.
- The committee will equip its members with an up to date research to advance their knowledge about the current market situation, to be applied while making the investment decision.
- The committee will strengthen ties with professional alumni, related professional organizations, research organizations, and similar student based organizations.
